Description

Set in 19th-century England, Pride and Prejudice is the story of the five unmarried daughters of the Bennet family. According to custom, their inheritance will pass to a male relative, leaving the girls with nothing. Because of this, Mrs Bennet dreams of seeing her daughters married to wealthy men, to save them from financial ruin. Elizabeth Bennet is young, beautiful and intelligent. She wants more from marriage than financial security, and will only marry for love. But her family is poor, and that is a problem. Then the rich and eligible Charles Bingley and his handsome but proud friend, Mr Darcy, move into the neighbourhood, causing much excitement. How will things progress? Will the girls’ poor background stand in the way of their future happiness? Or can love triumph over prejudice in the end?
