Description
Mr. Earnshaw returns to Wuthering Heights, a desolate estate on the English moors, with a half-starved boy he found on the streets of Liverpool. His wife is appalled, and his children, Hindley and Cathy, refuse to let the boy sleep in their room. Mr. Earnshaw names the boy Heathcliff. Cathy soon grows to adore Heathcliff, but Hindley harbors a deep-seated hatred for him. After Mr. Earnshaw’s death, Hindley takes control of Wuthering Heights and degrades Heathcliff, treating him as a servant. Despite Cathy’s affection for Heathcliff, her desire to ascend in society leads her to marry the wealthy Edgar Linton. Heathcliff’s ensuing jealousy and thirst for revenge inflict suffering not only on those around him but also on the next generation. Will peace ever come to Wuthering Heights?
